Memorial Heroes: Blanca Scott, AOD
January 29, 2021

What is your official title?
Administrator on duty (AOD).
How long have you worked here at Memorial Medical Center?
I have worked at MMC on and off since 2005.
How did you come into this position?
I had been working as a PRN AOD, but with the creation of a bed coordinator position among the AODs, I was able to transition to a full-time AOD/bed coordinator.
What was your motivation for a career in healthcare?
My motivation is to be part of a team that provides outstanding care for the people of Southern New Mexico. I have a strong desire to serve our community, and here at MMC I am supported and encouraged to provide that type of service.
What is a typical day like for you?
I wake up early to get my three children ready for online learning. I arrive at MMC at 10 a.m., I work together with the AODs to insure throughput and timely movement of patients, both into and throughout out facility. I finish my day at MMC at 8 p.m., then head home for a late dinner with my family. After which it is time for homework; I am in my last semester of my master’s in border & rural nursing, with a post-master’s certificate as a certified nurse practitioner.
How would you describe your role’s responsibilities?
The role of the AOD is a Jack of all trades. We are here to insure smooth operation throughout the facility. I am here to do whatever needs to be done to ensure that patients get the best possible care here at MMC.
In what areas do you help patients?
AODs help in every area of the hospital, community providers and surrounding hospitals, to help meet the needs of patients in Southern New Mexico and beyond.
What are some of your interests outside of work?
In my spare time, which is currently quite limited, I love to cook, craft and play Dungeons & Dragons with my family. I also teach Sunday school twice a month.
What is your favorite part about working for Memorial Medical Center?
I have worked in healthcare for over 25 years, and no matter where I go, I always seem to come home to MMC. Why? Because MMC is committed to the entire community. I have the privilege of working alongside some of the most compassionate, caring people I have ever met. And I am not just speaking of providers, from the staff in EVS and security to the RN & RTs, to the residents and attendings at family practice who go above and beyond to serve those most in need. This is what makes MMC a truly amazing place to work.
