New Mexico Department of Health EMS Bureau Level IV Trauma Designation
The Level IV Trauma designation represents MMC's commitment and preparation to the provision of trauma care, and participation in New Mexico's trauma system. Trauma designation indicates that MMC staff are prepared and trained to provide emergency care to injured patients, utilizing state and national standards of care.
Level IV Trauma Designation
This designation requires full-time general surgery and orthopedic care through the hospital emergency room. All ancillary departments, including radiology, must meet certain criteria and standards for trauma patients, including how quickly certain types of x-rays can be completed. A trauma team is designated and trained to respond to trauma cases in the Emergency Room.
Remember: Call 9-1-1
If you believe you are experiencing a medical emergency, calling 9-1-1 is almost always the fastest way to get lifesaving treatment. EMS staff are trained to revive someone whose heart has stopped. It is best to call EMS for rapid transport to the emergency room.
