What is your official title?

Systems Analyst III.

How long have you worked here at Memorial Medical Center?

Since August 2001.

How did you come into this position?

I originally started in the Food Services Department as a cashier. I wanted to learn more about MMC and applied for a radiology scheduling position; I remained in that position for a short time when I was approached by the radiology director to help assist as the Radiology Information Systems Coordinator.

That is where I learned more about applications and systems and built the radiology module in Meditech. During that duration I was promoted to the office manager for radiology and special services. During that time, I was approached by my current director that a position was currently open in Management Information Systems for Systems Analyst; I agreed to accept this position because I wanted to make a difference not only for my team but to better the quality of care received by patients at Memorial Medical Center.

What was your motivation for a career in Healthcare?

I have always been interested in providing quality care for the community I have come to know and love. The services I provide for the hospital are not seen by the patient but are noticed in the sense that they realize how easily they got through their visit or stay. Organizing the communications, registrations and computer systems help our clinical staff keep the patients safe. My work helps to make their workflow effortless while providing excellence in patient care.

What is a typical day like for you?

There is never a typical day in the life IT. It changes all day, from working on troubleshooting software tickets, project implementation calls, checking interfaces, and looking at possible new software, there always something new to work on.

How would you describe your role’s responsibilities?

Ensuring that our applications, interfaces and programs are flowing in the right direction for our patients.

In what areas do you help patients?

IT impacts all patient care throughout the hospital and not in a direct way but through providers and hospital patient care staff. We are the ghost writers behind the scenes. We keep software, hardware and patient data flowing to make it easier for the provider and hospital patient care staff to care for every patient that come to us.

What are some of your interests outside of work?

Playing Nintendo Switch “The Legend of Zelda”, baking, socially distanced family time, playing with my dogs Olive, Zoey and Tink and my cats Pepper and Chip.

What is your favorite part about working for Memorial Medical Center?

At the end of the day, knowing that I have made a difference in my work and provided the hospital with quality work to keep us as the leader as Southern New Mexico’s choice in healthcare.
